Fallen Military Veterans Remembered In Gregg County Ceremony

Throughout East Texas Monday, people from all walks of life remembered fallen heroes. At a special ceremony in Gregg County hundreds paid their respects.

One by one veterans from every war of every branch came forward to be recognized for their service, but it's the soldiers who could not be at Monday's ceremony who were truly honored.

"It's something that's hard to do and it's trying for a veteran to do it, but it's something that needs to be done, we don't want to ever forget what the price has been paid for our freedoms," says William Perkins, a Vietnam veteran.

He saw many of his friends never come home, two in particular he remembers every Memorial Day.

"Both of them were killed in Vietnam, I played ball with them in school," he says.

It's a story that almost every soldier, past and present can relate to.

We've had several generations go through this and it's just been something that we need to honor those guys because without them we wouldn't be here today talking," says Michael Eubank, another Vietnam veteran.

It's a day to remember, and to never forget those who have died so that we could live.

"This is a day that brings them back to the heart," says Eubank.

Organizers said Monday's ceremony had the biggest turnout yet.
