A Navy veteran who wrote a book about his experiences during three wars held a book signing in Tyler. Dick Atkins was in Barnes & Noble to sign copies of his book American Sailor. His book deals with his experiences as a teenager in the Navy during World War II and during the Korean War and the Cold War. He says it took him fives years to write it. Atkins hopes young people who read it, get a better idea of what people during his generation had to deal with.
"There were a lot of teenagers in World War II, more than people think," said Atkins. "I think that teenagers would feel something different than they're subjecting themselves through today, as to what we went through back in that time."
Atkins says this is his first book signing. He says it was a blessing to be able to hold it on Memorial Day. He says you can get his book, "American Sailor", at Barnes & Noble in Tyler or you can order it online at Books A Million and Amazon.com.
