East Texas Pets Enjoy A Day In The Park

Dogs, dogs, and more dogs. Everywhere you looked at Bergfeld Park in Tyler Saturday there was another pet owner with their K9 friend. With games and contests, it was our pets turn to show off their stuff.

Kicking off Pets in the Park Day, which benefits the Humane Society of Smith County, hundreds of dogs paraded through Bergfeld park.  Other dogs came out Saturday for some good old competition.   With the most beautiful pet contest, best costume, and then most attractively challenged, it was time to show off your pet.

"The dog show was my favorite part," said Flint resident Renotta Roberts. "Oh, that was so cute. I loved it. I come out here every year."

"It's amazing to see from the tiny tiny dogs to those large great Danes," said Humane Society of Smith County Executive Director Gayle Helms. "It just amazes me. and you can tell that these pets are really loved by their owners."

You didn't have to have a dog to enjoy the festivities.  All you had to do was sit back and watch the dogs chase the white cloth up and down a zip line, or the dogs go through the obstacle course.

"This is a blast," said Tyler resident Jamie Sabota. "It's just fun looking at all the dogs and people, so it's a lot of fun. Wish they had this once a month."  This is one of two fundraisers the Humane Society of Smith County holds every year.
