Several Restaurants Have Major Violations Upon Inspection

    7 East Texas restaurants are hit hardest in the latest round of inspections, including Popeye's at 2110 Gilmer Road. Inspected April 11th, hot and cold foods were held out of temperature, there was unsafe cooling of prepared foods, improper cooking temperatures for foods, and inspectors found there was improper hand-washing by employees, they had 24 total demerits.

      McDonalds at 1803 West Loop 281 was inspected May 2nd. Hot and cold foods were held out of temperature. Employees were improperly handling ready to eat foods. And there were un-cleaned utensils. 21: total demerits.

    Big Daves Bar-B-Que at 3012 West Marshall Avenue was inspected May 5th. Hot and cold foods were at unsafe temperatures. Improper cooling of cooked foods. And systems were not properly sanitizing utensils. They had 19 total demerits.

     Sonic Drive-In at 1930 East Marshall Avenue was inspected May 1st. Hot and cold foods were found kept at unsafe temperatures. Systems were inadequate for sanitizing utensils. And and food prep areas were unsanitary. Total demerits : 17

    Pizza Hut at 1906 East Marshall Avenue was inspected May 7th. There was evidence of insect contamination in food storage areas. Cold foods were held at unsafe temperatures. And toxic items were stored near food items. Total demerits: 15

  In Tyler, Papa John's Pizza at 631 South Beckham was inspected April 23rd. Products in walk-in coolers were too warm. There were severely dented product cans. And there was no sanitizer in a sinks so-called sanitizing rinse. Total demerits: 21

  And Braum's at 3635 Troup Highway was inspected April 24th. Pancake batter tested 15° too warm. Some food containers were placed directly on floor. And utensils stored in tubs marked clean dishes, were not clean. Total demerits: 16
