Chinook Helicopter Lands In East Texas

A C-H 47 Chinook helicopter landed at Grace Community School in Tyler Wednesday on the high school soccer field. It is a twin-engine aircraft that can top speeds of 196mph.

The helicopter has been in service since the Vietnam War era. The helicopter left Ft. Hood and was flown in by two pilots and two crewmen.

They opened up the ramp and let kids climb on to look at all the equipment.

One of the pilots, Justin Lee, is a Tyler native. He flew Chinook helicopters during earthquake relief efforts in Pakistan. "Our unit just returned from deployment in October to Afganistan. So It's a good opportunity for us to come and see the flip side of the army not just the fighting but the other side." said Lee, First Lieutenant, U.S. Army.

Lee finished his active duty in November. He also said it was a good opportunity to show the kids some of the military equipment.
