Five Generation East Texas Family Celebrates Mother's Day

It was a very special Mother's Day for one East Texas family: a family that spans five generations of mothers, 17 to be exact.  If you think your family is big, you should meet this Gladewater family.

"We are big," said Margret Clark Webb, a second generation family member.

"We are also fun," said Melissa Webb McCann, a third generation family member.

"Well, we are kind of big and loving, and we are close," said Webb.

Big might be an understatement to describe this Gladewater family. With 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild this family easily fills up an entire house.

"The oldest is Virginia and then me, and then my brother Jerry," said Webb. "He lives in Fort Worth.  "You don't want me to name all of them do you." Probably not, but there are five family members worth mentioning.  There's Olivia Clark, 87, and her daughter, Margaret, and then Margret's daughter, Melissa, and then Melissa's daughter, Jennifer, and then Jennifer's seven- week-old daughter, Kerrigan, who make up five generations.

"God has been good to us," said Webb. "I think the main thing we all try to put God first and then God puts everything else in place."

It's not only Mother's Day that brought all these people together. This family gathers in the same home every Sunday.   "It helps keep us close, and know what's going on with each other," said McCann. "It helps us get through the week because we look forward to getting together on Sunday."

So, how do they remember everyone's names?   "We have a habit of nick naming people," said Webb.  Names that's just pile on to the already 63 names this family have to keep track of.
