Freedom Fighters: "Death March" Survivor Profiled In New Documentary
Oliver "Red' Allen, a survivor of the Bataan Death March, is featured in a new Chinese documentary produced by Yang Jing of the China International Corporation. The documentary, titled "Muckden Nirvana", traces the experiences of Allen and other prisoners from the invasion of the Phillipines by the Japanese to their time at the Muckden Prisoner of War Camp in Manchuria.
Jing became interested in the project when he found that residents of Shenyang, China, previously Muckden, Manchuria, didn't know the camp had been there. Jing found that a piece of history was being forgotten and determined to do something about it.
Jing and Allen met when Allen was invited to return to the old camp site in China. Allen and his wife Mildred will leave later this month for the dedication of the Muckden Prison Camp Museum. Jing is happy that his efforts and the museum will help people remember what happened there.
