There are some successful small businesses in Longview that are being taunted by the highway department in the name of progress.
The area between Gilmer road and Bill Owens Parkway on loop 281 has a string of businesses many of you have supported for one reason or another for years. But today it's a little more challenging to get to them because of construction work. If you've been guilty of bypassing or avoiding this area all together please weigh your inconvenience with the challenge and difficulty the small business owner in this area is facing. I've heard reports of one business whose customer traffic has dropped as much as 10 to 2. Some of them may not make it through this construction unless they get your support. That means you will lose their product or service and some hard working east Texans may lose their jobs. If you think it's inconvenient now just think about how inconvenient it will be if they're not there anymore.
So, the next time you're about to avoid doing business in this construction zone please take a moment and consider the employees and business owners in the area who are making this a better east Texas.
I enjoy very much the editorials in the segment, "A Better East Texas." So often I feel that your editorials represent the voice of reason . . . your points are well taken. The editorials are well written, to the point and provide food for thought (. . .and more often than not, for me, an "Amen").
I live and work in Longview. I wake up with KLTV news and I'm a loyal viewer.
Thanks for your concern for making our region "A Better East Texas."
