Payton's Project Opens Up First Home

Saturday, the dream of a 22-year-old East Texas man and his family came true.  Family members of Payton Lewis, who was killed last December in a car crash, held an open house today for Payton's first home.

Before he died, Payton started a non-profit organization called Payton's Project where he built affordable homes for disabled and low-income families.  Payton died before his first house was complete, but his family took over to fulfill his dream.

"Payton would say wow mom, thanks for finishing my project," said Delicia Lews, Payton's mother.  "Keep on going, and keep on doing another house, and another house and our main goal is to have a cottage village, where we will have small village cottages for the disabled and elderly, and once we get to that final goal, I will feel like the project has succeeded."

The house located on Magnolia St. in Troup will be open again Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
