New Airplane Drive Into Tyler

If your drove through Tyler Saturday afternoon, you might have seen an airplane, not in the air, but driving right next to you.  They call it an AD-1 Sky raider. It's a combat plane that was used in the Vietnam War. This newest addition to the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum in Tyler comes from the Texas Air Museum in south Texas. After that museum closed, museum members in Tyler decided to drive it up to East Texas.

"We have a lot of gentleman here that have been asking for an airplane that has a propeller on it," said Ron Rimbey, with the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum. "As you can see from the collection of our aircrafts, we have many airplanes and they are all jets, so some of our members really wanted an airplane with a propeller on it."

In the coming weeks, museum members say they will renovate the plane to get it ready to put on display.
