Tyler Man Allegedly Kidnaps Co-Worker And Sexually Assaults Her

A Tyler woman is thrown into the trunk of her car and later sexually assaulted. Thursday night, the man police say is responsible is off the streets.

Around 2:00 p.m. Thursday police arrested Nathaniel Howard, III for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 23 year old woman early this morning.  The victim police say was just getting to work on West Gentry when she was attacked.

"She was going to open up, and she was approached by a fellow worker that currently, not to be working at that time, but approached her in the parking lot," said Officer Don Martin of the Tyler Police Department.  That's when the violent kidnapping began. Police say, Howard bound the victim's hands with a cord, stabbed her, and forced her into the trunk of her car.

"She was able to free herself within the trunk from being bound and hit the release," said Officer Martin. "There is an emergency release inside the trunk. She was able to get the trunk opened. The suspect realized the trunk was open. He pulled over, got her out of the trunk and put her up in the seat."

Police say Howard then drove the victim to a isolated road near Interstate 20 and Highway 110 and sexually assaulted her. Afterwards, Howard drove back to Tyler, got in his car and fled. The victim drove home and called police.  Police say they have dealt with Howard before.  Records show he's been charged with burglary and aggravated assault in the past. Tonight, police say the public should feel at ease knowing Howard is off the streets.

Howard has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. Police are looking for any witnesses.  If you have any information call Tyler police.
