About Meals On Wheels

Meals on Wheels Ministry, Inc. serves a daily meal to approximately 4,000 frail, homebound senior citizens and disabled persons every weekday in East Texas.

These meals are prepared fresh at the central kitchen located at 3001 Robertson Road, Tyler, Texas. The meals are then home-delivered by compassionate volunteers to eligible persons who cannot provide meals for themselves. Often this is the only meal they will have that day.

Meals on Wheels has served the senior citizens of East Texas since 1973. From its humble beginnings in Tyler, serving 40 people per day, this charitable work has grown tremendously and now reaches ten counties and 55 communities daily. Just last year over 894,000 meals were served by Meals on Wheels.

Letters from people that have been helped by Meals On Wheels

My Meals on Wheels just arrived today. Wilma, my deliverer, checked on me and reminded me to lock the door before she left. She is so dependable. My meal is here rain or shine. Sometimes Wilma is my only personal contact during the day. She is a caring person, telling me news about the area, especially about other seniors. Meals on Wheels provides me with a good wholesome meal five days a week. This meal consists of a serving from all categories of food. I am unable to cook that. I live on a fixed income that I haven't been about to fix yet! Meals on Wheels helps me and many others in more ways than one.

At 86, I live alone. The caring people from Meals on Wheels that deliver the meals, check on me each day and bring me joy. The volunteers are caring people that make my day brighter. It gives me a sense of security knowing they will come by each day.

      ~Ira from Gladewater

Meals on Wheels volunteers are very special people. They have helped me so very much. I really appreciate them. The lady that delivers my meals is so sweet and good. Her name is Eve. I can never put in words how the volunteers have helped me and I thank the good Lord for sending them my way.

    ~Juanita from Carthage

I want to tell you how great Meals on Wheels is. I don't how I would do without them. They help a lot of older and sick people like myself. We depend on this food. I look forward to seeing the nice gentleman that delivers my meals. Some days, he is the only person I see. There are so many people that are confined to their homes. They depend on these meals. Some of us don't have families.
