East Texan Talks About Life In NASCAR

Less than a year removed from the Hooters Pro-Cup racing series, Grace Community grad C.J. Fambrough is enjoying life in the fast lane as the rear-tire changer for the Joe Gibbs Racing Number 18 car on the Busch Series. We talked to him down while he was in Texas for the O'Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend.

"The tire changer is usually what's going to make or break a stop," Fambrough said.  "If I worry about how the car is running, then I'm not focused on going over the wall, and to go over the wall, with cars flying in and out and everything like that, you can't worry about anything else.  I want to be the best one out on pit road. I'm going to do what I have to do to get to that point, so I'm going to work out at lunch and practice and always trying to do something to get better. I've gotten to participate in the Nextel Cup practice here in the last few weeks, so I'm learning a lot there.  I feel I'm definitely ready. It's just a matter of when that opportunity comes along.  I feel like when my opportunity comes along that I'll be able to step in and be successful at it."

While Nextel Cup action may be in his future, C.J.'s current focus remsains on the Number 18 Busch car, which will compete in the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 at Phoenix International Raceway Friday night at 8:30pm.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs. However, in order to surpass their opponents this season, including Carthag...More >>
