Patriots Claim ASC Title, Remain Undefeated

The unbelievable season continues for the UT Tyler Patriots.

With a 9-2 win over LeTourneau Sunday afternoon, the Patriots claimed the ASC title and improved to 34-0.

It is the second conference title for the Patriots in their four years of existence. Because the Patriots are just a four year program, they are not eligible for the playoffs by NCAA rules.

However, Coach James Vilade said after the game, the championship win is special for a much better reason.

"GiIllian Sheridan (KLTV 7 News) introduced us to a kid named Joey Moore from the 'Gift of Love' and we dedicated our season to Joey. Kevin Berns (KLTV 7 Sports Director) said it on air, if we won this season and we got a championship ring we promised Joey a ring. So Joey's going to get his ring."

UT Tyler has four more games left to try and finish out the season undefeated. The Patriots final home game is Tuesday night against Southwest Assemblies of God.
