Soldiers Comment On Memorial Day

Over at the U.S. Army National Guard of Texas, soldiers we spoke with said they had an opinion on what they thought about school being open for Memorial Day but they could not share that with us because they are restricted in what they can say about matters of public opinion.

Captain Sam Speedy has served in the Army for more than 20 years.  He served in Iraq in 2004. He was there for 11 months.

His father served for 30 years.  Captain Speedy said Memorial Day has always been a special day to his entire family. He said everyone should take the time out of their day to thank those who've given the ultimate price for their country.

"It's certainly the desire of those who serve in uniform that regardless of whether that one is a holiday or is in school or out of school that they take the appropriate time to stop and reflect upon those who've paid the ultimate sacrifice for their nation, for their freedom," said Captain Speedy.
