One Restaurant Has Massive Violations, Two Restaurants End Up Perfect

Rio Grande at 201 San Antonio in Alto was inspected April 4.

There were numerous problems with temperatures.  Ready-to-eat foods were handled without use of hand sanitizer.   There was no hot water in kitchen or restrooms, and a plumbing problem posed a backflow danger.

Also, bug spray was improperly stored, there was no sanitizer used in dishwashing, cleaning and repair of food contact surfaces was needed, and a "pinkish" substance was seen on an ice machine.

Total demerits: 44

Two restaurants had perfect scores in Cherokee County:

Dairy Queen at 163 N. Marcus in Alto, and Rudy's at 1203 N. Dickinson in Rusk.
