Garbage Collection Rules Enforced, Fines On The Way

If you live in Tyler, and leave your trash can on the curb all the time, you should know that could cost you.  The city has been sending notices about this to customers since December.

A trash bin cannot be out at the curb before 6 p.m. the day before pickup, or after 7 a.m. the day after pickup.  Now, if the bin is found on the curb outside those times, you'll be notified several times before you wind up with a ticket for $25.

The city says forgotten trash bins has been a real problem in neighborhoods.

"The number of carts that are left on the street, and the number of carts that are in the streets [is a problem]. People are complaining that they're a traffic hazard and people are complaining about the aesthetics of the neighborhood.  They don't want to look at a bunch of trash cans," said Dan Brotton, the city's Director of Solid Waste.

The problem has been a worsening problem the last few weeks with stronger wind gusts. Bins have been blown into the middle of some streets.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
