Five East Texas fire departments were called out to try to save a home this afternoon. It started around 10:45 a.m. at a house in Noonday on Summerhill Circle. By the time the first department arrived, most of the home was overcome by flames. Along with the home, the family lost two pets. Two vehicles were also damaged.
"We do have a hydrant close by so that really helped out, just the having a hydrant close by was the saving factor," said Smith County assistant fire Marshall Oren Hale. "At first I was completely devastated because when I got here, my house was on fire too. I was pretty sure that I was going to lose everything," said home owner Cindy Fancher.
No cause has been released. Officials say two firefighters received minor cuts during the blaze.
