Home Intruder Arrested After Standoff

A man walks into a Tyler home, starts things on fire and refuses to leave.  It happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the 2200 Block of Old Omen Road.   Tyler police say the intruder, a friend of the homeowner, entered the home without permission and took his clothes off. The homeowner police say then left and called police. While inside, police say the intruder burned some of the homeowner's personal property. When police arrived, the intruder refused to leave.

"We knocked on the door and contacted him by telephone and the subject would not pick up the phone," said Tyler Police Department Sgt. Bill Goecking. "Officers using negotiation tactics got the subject to come to the window and talk to us. The subject then finally came out of the front door."

Police have not identified the intruder. Police say the man has been arrested and charged with criminal trespassing and arson.
