A historic building, dating back to World War II, made its way through downtown Kilgore Thursday. An original American Legion Post home was located on the corner of Highway 42 and US 259, but it's moved down the street. The two-story home was lifted and put on wheels to make room for a new Walgreen's in its place. Dozens of citizens looked on to see the historical building being transported. They said they were glad to see it wasn't destroyed, but rather preserved.
Bob Florence, the building's owner, says"with the history of this building, the quality of the architecture, it would have been a crying shame to have get it be torn down. I wasn't going to let that happen personally. It's just meant a lot to a lot of people, and I'm one of them."
The home's owner says many memories have been made in the old building, including group meetings and even high school dances.
