Car Stolen With Child Still Inside

A frightening situation in Longview when a car is stolen with a baby left inside. It happened Thursday when police say the parents left a 15 month old, and the keys in their car. They'd gone into a tattoo shop in the 35-hundred block of Gilmer road. Shortly after, the parents say the car was stolen. Police recovered it only blocks away, with the child still inside and unharmed. Investigators say the parents made 2 mistakes.

"It's a misdemeanor if you leave your vehicle unattended with either the engine running or the keys still in the ignition, and also when it comes to children anyone that under the age of 7 can not be left in a vehicle over more than 5 minutes and again that is a misdemeanor" said Longview police sergeant Anthony Boone.

Charges are not expected to be filed against the child's parents. Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Longview police. Bob Hallmark/bhallmark@kltv.com
