17-year old Dakota White was visibly shaken. He was home more than an hour after the shooting happened and his father taken away in cuffs.
"Do you all know the condition of my mother? Do you know where she is?," asks Dakota as he prepares to drive to the hospital.
Dakota says while his parents didn't have the perfect marriage, things came to a head yesterday when his mother told Richard she was leaving him.
"It's been off and on. I didn't expect this [shooting to happen] though," says Dakota.
Lucinda and Richard have been together for about 20 years, marrying in 1987 in Hopkins County. In October 1994, Lucinda filed a protective order against her husband. Later that same month she filed for divorce. Then the couple remarried in 2002. The neighbors saw what happened on the news. Shirley Dawson said she had an eerie feeling.
"I just... I heard about that red car and I wondered if it was [the neighbor's]," says Shirley.
Her husband Walter adds, "I haven't heard any problems. They were getting along great. They had two boys who were not so bad."
Close family friend Adrian Bush learned what happened today through police. His thoughts with Lucinda and more so for what Richard allegedly did to her.
"I hope God forgives him for this. This is a shock towards everybody, towards me, my family. Like I said earlier it's hurts my heart that he done something like this."
"Ya'll just don't know how much I love my mama man," says Dakota shaken.
The White's son will likely have to break the news to his 13-year-old brother. Taking on the role of head of the house as his father sits in jail. Neighbors say Richard White, the suspect, was an employee at Tyler Pipe. The victim's son also told us Wednesday, it's been several years since his parents had a dispute this bad.
