Small Plane Crashes Short of Athens Airport

The latest now on a single engine plane crash in Henderson County Tuesday: it happened before 3 p.m. in the Baxter community, southeast of Athens.

Three men were on board, and early word from those first on the scene is that the plane may have lost power in flight.   The pilot is said to have tried to make the Athens airport, but that wasn't possible.

Setting down in a pasture, the wheels dug into the soft soil and the plane flipped over. Two of the three men were taken by helicopter to Tyler hospitals. Their condition isn't being released.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
