The Big Easy made its way to East Texas Tuesday. Residents at Highland Pines Nursing and Rehab Center in Longview went all out to celebrate Fat Tuesday. Workers and volunteers, including Mayor Jay Dean, danced around the dining room, passing out beads. There was even a Mardi Gras King and Queen.
Annette Simpkins, the administrator of Highland Pines Nursing Center, says, "we have the big parade and we have celebrity guests to come and lead it for us and we have the king cakes and all the beads and we have a king and queen and we have a parade through the dining room and its something the residents look forward to every year."
This is the 8th year the nursing home has celebrated Mardi Gras with its residents.
