Big bucks are expected to be spent in Longview this weekend. Nine hundred thousand dollars could be generated at the new Lear Park, as a fast-pitch softball tournament called the Sports Tourism Classic rolls through town. City officials say sports dollars help the entire city as families spend money on gas, food, and shopping. Even area hotels are already booked up.
C.J. Clayton, president of the Longview Hospitality and Tourism Association, says, "because they're here, they're going to spend the money here so the hoteliers particularly are going to get most of that cause they have to have a place to sleep and it's not just children, it's their parents, their grandparents and anyone who's interested in seeing them play."
The softball tournament is set for Thursday through Saturday.
