Crews rushed to a house fire in Longview this afternoon, and had to keep their distance as gun ammunition was going off in the blaze. It happened around 5:00 p.m. Crews were called to the 1,200 block of North 9th St.
Firefighters quickly worked to knock out the blaze which had destroyed about 30 percent of the home when they arrived. Firefighters and neighbors kept their distance for a few minutes as gun ammunition began to go off in the home. The blaze was reported by a neighborhood child.
"I saw black smoke going up in the air and I knew it was a house fire," said Christopher Adams, 6, who witnessed the fire.
"He came into the house extremely excited hollering, 'Dad, dad. There's black smoke, looks like a house fire. Call 911," said Christopher's father, Jimmy Adams.
No one was in the home at the time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
