Tyler Cancer Center Unveils Cancer Survivor Statue

A special unveiling took place this afternoon of a statue meant to inspire those fighting cancer.   A seven foot bronze statue was unveiled at Harvey Convention Center in Tyler of of April Murphy, 39, a breast cancer survivor. The statue will sit in the Tyler Cancer Center.

April just had a baby when she was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago. Today, she's a survivor and hopes her statue will inspire other cancer patients to keep fighting.  "I want them to look at cancer in the eye and say, 'I will survive', and I don't care what kind of cancer you have because, you know.  If you let it get to you mentally right off the bat then you are giving in and you can beat it, and that's what I hope every cancer patient says," said Murphy.

This afternoon's unveiling is part of Tyler Cancer Center's 10th annual Breast Cancer Conference.
