Police Say East Texas Student Was Planning Attack On School

With an arrest Thursday morning, Upshur County authorities say have stopped a potentially dangerous situation at Ore City schools.  Investigators say a seventeen year old student, Michael Lee Hickson, has been arrested and is charged with a third degree felony; terroristic threat. Police told us, in the last week, the student has threatened to blow up the school. They also say they found some disturbing pieces of evidence in the student's bedroom including pictures of the two students responsible for the Columbine shootings, and pages from a Satanic bible. Hickson is now being held in Upshur County Jail on 250 thousand dollar bond.

Ore City's Superintendent, Lynn Heflin, issued this statement.

"Ore City ISD is aware of the investigation being conducted by the Upshur County Sheriff's Office concerning one of our students. We are working with both the District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's office in this matter. We believe in being pro-active when it comes to the safety of our students and staff, and we are taking every precaution to insure that safety."

New information on the threat continues to come in. We'll bring you more information online, and on our 5, 6, and 10 pm newscasts tonight.
