Former TJC Standout Is Headed To Disney World!

There was no storybook ending for Big Sandy's Lovie Smith in last nights Super Bowl, but another person with East Texas ties tasted victory last night. That was Colts running back Dominic Rhodes. The former Tyler Junior College standout rushed for a game-high 113 yards rushing and a touchdown. The standout performance had his TJC backers beaming with pride today.

"Usually when you walk in Monday morning after the Super Bowl you talk about the ads and all of that kind of fun stuff," said TJC athletic director Tim Drain, "and I'll admit our first words when we got in were how close was Dominic in the MVP chase? He had such a good game and I'm so proud of him. (Former TJC) coach (Dale) Carr coached him when he was here and spoke so highly of him and his work ethic, and what a great kid he was and it's good to see someone who comes through here and goes on to big things like that and does well and represents Tyler and TJC well."

While Colts quarterback Peyton Manning took home the Super Bowl MVP award, Rhodes is the one headed to Disney World.  He and Colts coach Tony Dungy recorded the famous ad shortly after the end of the game, saying the famous words, "We're going to Disney World!"

Rhodes' Super Bowl performance should go a long way in boosting his income.  He is an unrestricted free agent, and his NFL stock has never been higher.

With the smallest enrollment in District 17-5A, and really across the entire classification, Lindale could use that as an excuse for a sub-par season. But under defensive coordinator, turned head coach Chris Cochran, that won't be the case.
