East Texan To Work Pit Crew On Busch Series

For most folks, achieving our work task in 11 seconds would be impossible. But for C.J. Fambrough, it is a must and the clock is always ticking.

The East Texan is a member of Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew, and just 23-years-old, he will begin this season on the Busch Series.

"It's something that not a lot of people get to do," C.J. said.

C.J. Fambrough's job puts him at the heart of the racing world, and he lives to leap over that little wall on pit row.

"I can't explain how I feel. This is what I've always wanted to do."

C.J. is a rear tire changer for Joe Gibbs Racing crew, and after a year on the Hooters Pro Series.

"I run out and take the lug nuts off and put them on as quick as I can."

At 23, C.J. is one of the youngest to be promoted to the Busch Series. He can change and tire and have a car back in the race in just 11 seconds.

"I was able to practice in front of the coaches there and they've seen me time and time again and they know what I can do."

Those bosses felt C.J. was ready for the big leagues. "I will be driving the number 18 car. There will be four different drivers this year. Tony Stewart's going to drive a few."

That's Tony Stewart, as in Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart.

"It's definitely pretty cool. Getting to pit for Tony will probably be something that will be the highlight of the year."

It is a dangerous job, but C.J. loves it all and he would love nothing more than to one day win a championship in the Nextel Cup.

"You just never know with this sport."

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
