Men Remain Hospitalized After Rig Accident

Three East Texas oilfield workers remain hospitalized, after a drilling rig collapse in Upshur County.   It happened around 5:00 p.m. yesterday, just off Highway 271 and FM 2088. That's about four miles north of Gilmer, in the town of Bettie.

Witnesses say the top of the rig gave under its own weight, and crashed down on top of three workers underneath. The rig belongs to Matador Resources company. Although the men were injured, they were not trapped by the twisted metal.

The three were transported to hospitals in Tyler and Longview. OSHA and the Upshur County Sheriff's Office are investigating the accident. The workers' names have not been released at this time, but two of them are listed in serious condition. The condition of the third worker has not been released.
