East Texas Cub Scouts Compete In Pinewoods Derby Race

For more than 50 years, Cub Scout packs all over the country challenge their craftsmanship and compete in the Pinewood Derby Race.   It's a race between model cars made by the cub scouts themselves. East Texas scouts, grades 1st through 5th, competed this afternoon at Pollard United Methodist Church. The scouts compete in two category's, speed and style.

"My dad put some graphite in there and that's a little bit of sparkling stuff and it kind of made it look a bit cool and also it made it go very fast," said seven-year-old Cub Scout Christian Carrife.   '

"It's a chance to step out and to build something and show they can do it, and they just have a great time racing," said den leader Jim Cousineau.  Winners from today's derby race will move on to districts.
