Three Injured In Oil Rig Accident

An East Texas oil rig buckles and sends tons of metal down injuring 3 people.

The rig collapsed around 5 o'clock this evening, just off Highway 271 and FM 2088. That's just about 4 miles north of Gilmer. Investigators are still out on the scene tonight. Witnesses say the top of the rig apparently gave under it's own weight, and crashed down on top of three workers underneath. Emergency crews rushed to the scene to find that, although injured, the men were not trapped by the twisted metal.

Miraculously, all three survived, and were transported to hospitals in Tyler and Longview.   The Upshur County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident. The workers' names have not been released at this time.  Two of them are listed in serious condition. The condition of the third worker has not been released.
