It's Official & Pay Day: East Texas Scratch-Off Winner Gets Check

It's official, an East Texan is now a millionaire after he won $2.4 million from a Texas Scratch-off ticket.  The Texas Lottery Commission in Austin announced 62 year old Curtis Hanson of Gallatin the winner.  Curtis won not once, but twice.

Curtis Hanson and his family were in Austin to get the winnings from his scratch off ticket. He bought the winning ticket at the Valero gas station in Jacksonville.

"I got tickets, I scratched it off and I looked at everybody in the store.  I said to young gentleman. Hey tiger, come here.  Does that say what I think it says?  He said oh, my word.  I said it most say it.  I got in the car and locked the doors," says Curtis.

The ticket did not sparkle or gleam but the scratch off's gray remnants showed he had the golden ticket. Curtis and his wife could not believe their eyes.

"We would get up in the middle of the night and check it. He said, it does say and I said yes," says Darnell Hanson, Curtis wife.

Back home in Gallatin, friends of the Hansons' are in awww... of their lucky pal.

"I was shocked.  It was surprising that someone this close won that much money," says Riley Trotter, friend of Curtis.

"Shocked like everybody else and with Curtis it is great and you couldn't ask for a better person to win," says Juanita Cotton, friend of Curtis.

So what will the Hansons' do with $10,000 a month for the next 20 years?

"We really don't plan to change our life all that much. First night, I bought a new car but basically live like we have," says Curtis.

His new winnings have not stopped him from playing the lottery.

"Here we are getting $2.4 million, so we take a break and go buy another scratch off ticket right next door and win $500," says Curtis.

The Hansons are going to share the wealth. They say they'll give some of their winnings to their church.
