Kilgore's Huey Says Goodbye, Heads To Austin

Kilgore High School held it's annual spring sports pep rally this afternoon. It was also a chance to say goodbye and good luck to All-American offensive lineman Michael Huey, who leaves tomorrow for Austin. Huey graduated early to help jump-start is career as a Longhorn.  It was a bitter sweet final day in Kilgore for Huey.

"When you get to the end, you start thinking about the beginning," Huey said.  "I just started thinking about, I'm a freshman coming in here, I was in awe.  And, now I'm leaving.  I'm kind of sad, but I have a new chapter in my life going to Texas."

Huey made the decision to graduate early shortly after committing to the Longhorns last year.  He wants to take part in spring practice and get as much experience as he can.  His goal is to start as soon as possible, while improving as a player.  Fortunately for Huey, he'll have a couple of folks to show him the ropes.  He joins former Kilgore teammates Britt Mitchell and Eddie Jones, who were freshman this season.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
