East Texas School Holds Arbor Day Celebration

An East Texas elementary school hosted an Arbor Day celebration Friday.  A number of local officials were on hand for the ceremony at "Ramey Elementary."  Four trees were planted on the campus of the school following the ceremony. During the event a tree-planting ceremony given by representatives of the "Texas Forest Service" and the "Tyler Rose Garden."

Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber made a special announcement. "We thought Arbor Day would be a great day to announce a full time arborist, someone that could actually take care of our trees and also that we're applying for a designation to be a tree city USA," said Tyler Mayor Joey Seeber.

To become a "tree city", Tyler must meet certain requirements and they're hoping that the arborist will help them achieve that goal. A benefit of being a "tree city" is the availability for conservation and forestry programs. The application process takes several months.
