LeTourneau Men Making History By, Winning

"Our goal is to be national champs," said LeTourneau guard Jayme Bradley.

National Champs?  Are you serious?

"We're very serious," chimed in guard J.J. Blackmore.

"Nobody is really giving us any credit," said Bradley, "because you know, we're just LeTourneau, so it's kind of good to be underdogs."

"We're just trying to be part of history," said Blackmore, "and the sky's the limit as long as we play hard and listen to Coach Davis.

So far, it's working.  With just three players returning from last year, Coach Bob Davis and the Yellowjackets have already surpassed last years win total. At 9-4, they are on pace for their first winning season in a decade, and their first ASC playoff appearance ever.

"The ideal is that you're playing to your potential, and learning is the fun of it," said Davis, "but I must admit, learning is a little bit easier when you are winning."

And they are winning with several East Texas players, including Longview's Rockmore, Tatum's Bradley, and leading scorer Dusty Evers of White Oak.

"It's definitely neat to see each other come together and play together as a team instead of against each other," said Evers.  "We all knew LeTourneau was kind of a losing program, and I wanted to be a part of something that could turn this program around."

With 11 games left, the Yellowjackets will have to win four of them to secure their first winning record since 1996-97 and second since 1987.  But, the road to history will be a bumpy one.  They still have two games against ASC-East Division leader Mississippi College, which is currently undefeated in conference play and ranked ninth in the country.  They also have two games against second-place UT-Dallas and a rematch with Jarvis Christian, who they beat to open the season, but who has only lost once since then.
