A hearing to determine if a convicted East Texas murderer should die has concluded. Now, it's up to a Smith County judge to determine whether Allen Bridgers, 35, should die. His attorneys said Bridgers is mentally retarded and should not be executed for the 1997 murder of Mary Amie of Tyler. Under federal law, it is unconstitutional to execute a mentally retarded person. A decision on this case is expected by the first week of March.
