United Steelworkers Set To Vote Thursday On Tentative Agreement

The local United Steelworkers Union says it will meet and vote this Thursday on the Tentative Agreement, which would keep the Tyler plant open another year.   During that period, workers would also be able to take advantage of sizeable retirement buyouts. Union President Jim Wansley says the outcome of the vote is unknown.

"Our folks have been without a pay check for almost three months and this fight has been largely about retiree healthcare as well as what happened with the Tyler plant," said Union President Jim Wansley. "I would tell you the language around the Tyler plant is not as good as I'd like to see, but it's going to be there decision as if it's going to be good enough. " The meeting is this Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. in the John Tyler High School gym. Voting will follow the meeting.   the agreement passes, union members will be able to go back to work next week.
