East Texan Gets Shot At Super Bowl Ad

By day, Dave Deffenbaugh is the managing partner at Texas Roadhouse in Tyler, but ever since he found out about a contest where the grand prize is a 30 second Super Bowl advertisement and two tickets to the game, he's been moonlighting as a budding advertising guru.

"I was watching a football game and a commercial came on and I went to the website and got all the details and started spinning my wheels," says Dave.

He was one of twelve thousand people to enter the contest and his idea landed him in the finals.

The commercial goes like this. First, there's  a leprechaun who's a Packer's fan watching the game at an Irish pub. Then, you see the Easter bunny, who's a Cowboys fan watching the game at home with his family.  Finally, Santa is a Bills fan who's tailgating outside the stadium.

"The ending narration is, 'Superbowl Sunday. It's everybody's favorite holiday," says Dave.

It's a pretty good idea for a guy who doesn't have any experience in advertising whatsoever.

"At one time, I was interested in commercial advertising, but that was in junior high school and high school, before I found the restaurant business," says Dave.

In order to win the contest, Dave's putting together his own, grassroots campaign to get all his friends and coworkers to go online and make a lifelong dream come true.

His idea is Pitch #4.
