Venture Scouts Receive Heroism Award

The Boy Scout motto is "be prepared."  Today, a family of three scouts were awarded for their exceptional preparation that helped save their neighbor's life.

The Heroism Award is one of the most prestigious awards given by the Boy Scouts of America. Ryan and Casey Jasper and their father, Alan, received the honor for administering CPR when they found their neighbor, Art Burke, lying in the middle of the road, suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.

"These boys went out of their way, they took the time, they saw something unusual and they reacted quickly," said Burke.

"I was just like, 'Oh my gosh.' My neighbor, he's a great guy. He's my neighbor, and he needs help. I'm the only one around. Let's help him," said Ryan.

The advisor to the Venture Crew 369 says the award is a huge honor. He says in his 30 plus years of scouting, this is the first time he's ever seen anyone get it.
