Tatum , Alto and Liberty-Eylau Claim State Football Championships

After 14 weeks of battling it out on football fields across the state, it all came down to one game saturday for some East Texas teams.

Tatum

The Tatum Eagles are seeing double. For a second straight year the Eagles have brought a state championship home.

Tatum won 32-14 over the Littlefield Wildcats. The eagles held the lead at the half and did not look back.

After winning the Class 3A Division II championship in 2005, realignment changed a few things and the Eagles are a now a 2A team. The eagles could not defend last years title, so it seems they went out and won another: the Class 2A Division I title.

Coach Andy Evans said winning state not once but twice, has been humbling.

Alto

For the Alto Yellowjackets, Saturday afternoon brought the perfect finish to their perfect season. The Yellowjackets remain undefeated in 2006.

They defeated the McCamey Badgers Saturday afternoon in Brownwood, 42-13. Alto finishes a perfect 14-0 this season to win the Class A Division I Championship.

Liberty-Eylau

The Liberty-Eylau Leopards defeated the Robinson Rockets 35-34.

With 18 seconds left in the game, Robinson scored a touchdown and was down by only a point. The Rockets faked the extra point kick and went for two.  The Leopards were able to hold them off and the Leopards are the 3A Division I Champion.
