Consumer Alert: Don't Leave Your Holiday Presents In Plain View

A lot of people will be shopping for that perfect gift this weekend and that includes thieves. Tyler police want to remind you if you leave things in plain view in your car, it's as good as an invitation to those strolling through parking lots looking to grab and go.

At the big retail parking lots this weekend police will have volunteers looking in car windows. If they see something to steal expect to see one of these slips of paper.

Gary Lynch, Coordinator Volunteers In Policing, "We're not trying to embarrass anybody. We're not trying to hurt feelings or make them feel bad in any way. We're simply trying to inform the public that they have a potential for auto burglary, that can be prevented very easily."

The vehicle burglary report card is not a citation of any kind and there is no fine or penalty attached. It's just a reminder.
