Homeowners Reach Settlement Along Path of Grande Extension

The City of Tyler will go before a judge to acquire three tracts of land along the path of the Grande Boulevard expansion.  But two homeowners have come to terms with the city.

The two homes in the 6300 block of New Copeland Road will be razed to make way for Grande's Phase 2.  That will extend from Sutherland Drive to Highway 155.

One of the homeowners tells KLTV they settled with the city Tuesday, before eminent domain proceedings began.  But they still feel they weren't paid what their homes are worth.

Tyler's mayor disagrees.

"Anytime you're negotiating, you think your property is worth more than the party that wants to buy it.  We had independent appraisals of the properties and we ended up paying significantly more," says Mayor Joey Seeber.

Seeber says it'll be several months before a judge decides on those three nearby tracts of land where owners have not settled.
