Ex-Fugitive Gets Life In Prison

An ex-fugitive gets life in prison for murdering a Tyler man back in 2001.   Saul Arroyo, 25 was found guilty yesterday for killing Joel Garcia after the two got into an argument. Arroyo then fled to Mexico, and was there for five years before the U.S. Marshall's Office brought him back for his trial.   It took the jury less than an hour to hand down the life sentence this afternoon. Smith County District Attorney Matt Bingham says Arroyo got what he deserved.

"While they were out deliberating, the jury was out deliberating, the officers came in to see the closing arguments, and he (Arroyo) flipped the officers off and then flashed a gang sign at the officers," said Matt Bingham, Smith County District Attorney. "That's what you got sitting down there. Someone who's just a thug, no remorse for anything he's done."     The jury also gave Arroyo the maximum fine of $10,000.00.
