PBR Champ Living In East Texas

He's been stomped, gored, thrown and trampled and gets right back on. East Texas' own Adriano Moraes (pronounced more-eye-uhs) is known as the bull tamer. He recently picked up an unprecedented third Professional Bull Riding world championship.

"I think we are brave or stupid," Moraes said.

The horse is a much gentler creature than what Moraes is used to.  His co-workers are 2,000  pound bucking bulls. When it comes to man against beast, this man always seems to win.

"I am the first PBR world champion ever," Moraes said.  "I am the first to do it twice and now I am the first to do it three times."

The three time world champion began riding bulls at age 16, turning pro in his home country of Brazil at age 18. He's spent most of his career in Texas, recently moving to the Tyler area. Adriano says some may call his professional choice crazy, but riding is his passion.

"We are intimidated all the time," Moraes explained.  "We are scared all the time, we know that we can get hurt, we know that we could even die, but we try to block that out when we are about to ride.  I've been hurt so many times in my life. They most life threatening was when I got gored in the belly the horn getting 12 centimeters in my belly."

Just 25 days after that accident Adriano was back on a bull.

"I think we need to be braver than everybody else," Moraes said.  "I think we need to be a little bit more into our instincts."

At just 36 years old, Adriano says he's one of the oldest riders on the PBR, but he also says he has no plans of slowing down any time soon.

"I'm trying to go as far in my career as I can," said Moraes.  "I'm trying to reach 40 years old riding bulls.  It's an adrenaline rush. I think that's what hooked me up. I'm addicted to it. I don't know what I'm going to do when I stop riding bulls.  I think I'm going to start jumping out of airplanes to have the same amount of adrenaline."

Next up for Moraes is the PBR Kickoff for the 2007 season, January 6th and 7th in New York City at Madison Square Garden.
