Judge Clark Asks State To Keep Foster Children in East Texas

An East Texas family law judge has ordered the state to stop placing local abused and neglected children in faraway foster homes. In the order, District Judge Carole Clark also directed the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to keep siblings together except in very rare cases. She says the answer to keeping children here, even with a shortage of foster homes, may be group homes.

"We have Children's Village and Alzeway. There are times when those facilities can take siblings together but instead children are placed in foster homes outside the county or continuous county and not placed with siblings," says Judge Carole Clark, 321st District Court, Smith County.

Officials say they are reviewing the order but they will comply for now.
