East Texas Military Recruiters Say Enlistments Meeting Goals

Military recruiters here in East Texas say many folks continue to step forward, leaving their normal lives to answer the call of duty.

In fact, at the Army recruiting center in Tyler, they say they are meeting enlistment goals.  While they don't have any numbers available for October, they say every day people continue to walk in the door, eager to sign up either to have a fulfilling career or to take advantage of military benefits like the G.I. Bill.

Staff Sergeant Bryan Nagle, a recruiter in Tyler says all recruits continue to ask about conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, "What are their chances of going? If they take a fighting job, and we're in a fight, you can expect to be going to the fight. If you're in a non-fighting job, it's just a chance of how your assignments work out."

Numbers released by the Pentagon for October show all four brances of service met or slightly exceeded their monthly goals for active duty enlistment.  However, Iraq and Afghanistan are heavy on the minds of recruits.
