Building Dedicated For Longview Marine Corps League

The Marine Corps League of Longview got a long-awaited gift for themselves:  a new building for its headquarters.   It's located on Alpine Rd.  The new building was made possible trough donations and their own labor.  Marines now have a center to run Toys For Tots.

For ten years they've brought smiles to the faces of needy children in Longview by providing toys during Christmas time. When they organized in 1996, they met in homes, basements and street corners to collect donations for Toys For Tots.

"We've looked forward to this day for many years.  I know I have," said World War II Marine veteran Gordon Hargett.

"I think that's the Marines attitude.  You just get the job done, doesn't matter what it is.  Just get it done, no matter how you have to do it," said Gregg County Judge Bill Stoudt.

Over 10 years, the organization has given out more than 80,000 toys to needy children in Gregg County. Complete with Corps memorabilia, the building represents their best efforts.  "You don't meet anyone else beside family members that are as tight as close a group as the Marine Corps is,"  said Marine staff sergeant Joe Seinz.

The building took two years to complete. Many of those who donated have a plaque dedicated to a family member who served in the Armed Forces, posted on the front of the building.
