A look at how the power of love can change a child forever. We want to give you an update on a little boy named Daniel who we first featured more than 5 years ago on our Gift of Love report. That was August, 2001.
Then in March, 2003, you may recall we shared the joy Daniel brought to his forever family. In care since infancy, his new mom and dad changed his life, making this little boy beam with happiness.
Now, 3 years later, his life is about to change again.
As we wondered through Bergfeld Park in Tyler I asked Daniel, "Now that you've been with your mom and dad for quiet a while what are they like?" With a big smile he replies, "They're really good."
It's a smile that can melt your heart. Daniel beams when he talks of his forever family. But he says there is one thing missing. "I've wanted a baby brother or baby sister for a long time," he says.
"After having the greatest little boy in the whole wide world, we knew it would be a wonderful thing to do again," said Vickie.
Then, along came Alaina; A one year old little girl. Vicki says, "We got a phone call that we were chosen to adopt a little girl and were thrilled to death and scared to death."
I asked Daniel, "Do you think that this is the perfect family for Alaina?" He says, "Yes, because we have a lot of room for a little kid. We just have a lot of love for everybody."
Alaina appears to be a perfect fit right down to her red hair, matching the rest of the family. Daniel says, "She's sweet and she's precious and I wouldn't sell her for a million dollars."
Doug, the proud new dad says, "He loves her to death."
Unlike Daniel, Doug and Vicki have had to teach their new little girl to walk and talk. Doug says, "She made my day one day when I came in from work. I had worked two shifts in a row, when I walked through the kitchen she heard my voice and she raised up and she came running to me. That made my day."
Making the decision to adopt again was an easy one for Doug and Vicki. She says, "The second one has been just as good as the first. It's been absolutely wonderful."
"If you have it in your heart and you have room, I wish we had more room, we can make room, probably going to have to," says Doug.
Vicki looks at Daniel and asks, "Are we done Daniel or do we have more room for more kids?" Daniel quickly responds, "We have more room!"
As Daniel waits to see if he will get another sibling, he keeps a close eye on his new little sister. "The best part of having a little sister is getting to help and just having her."
A family growing together, sharing the Gift of Love.
